Retail Furniture Chains are Replacing Showroom’s Hot Halogen Spotlights
with Super Efficient, 50,000 hour, Cool Burning LED Lighting.
Annual Energy and Maintenance Savings into the Millions!
Deerfield Beach (March 10, 2011) – From the bottom line to the top of the ceiling, hundreds of furniture showrooms across the country are a little bit brighter and greener these days thanks to the addition of MSi iPAR LED lighting fixtures.
MSi iPAR’s have been installed in furniture retailers like Macy’s Furniture Gallery, Thomasville & Drexel-Heritage, Arhaus Furniture, Ashley Furniture, Rooms To Go and RC Willey. All of the RC Willey Las Vegas showroom’s 90-watt halogen spotlights were replaced with 10-watt iPAR LED lights. The conversion was a simple matter of unscrewing the old lights and screwing in the new ones, but the results were immediate and dramatic. Unlike hot burning halogen lights, the extremely efficient LED lights produce virtually no heat and within hours of installation store employees had noticed a drop in the showrooms temperature. Management was able to raise the air conditioner thermostat settings by four degrees. This one store will save $172,000 per year and a staggering $2 million in direct energy costs before replacing the iPAR’s.
“Many retailers are a little concerned about the initial investment of converting to LED lighting,” said Bruce Johnson, MSi managing partner. “But if they take the time to run the numbers, they’ll see that switching over produces a great return on their investment.”
It’s more than just saving watts. Additional savings are realized in the lower maintenance and replacement cost for LED lighting. The typical 90-watt halogen light burning 12 hours a day will need to be replaced approximately every four months. The 10-watt iPAR burning 12 hours a day will last for up to 13 years. When you have a furniture showroom with 1000 spot lights – as many as 100 halogens are burned out at any time. This problem goes away!
These MSI iPAR lights are packed with state-of-the-art features that can’t be found in comparable LED lighting. Innovative POWERBANDä technology allows users to fine tune their lighting by selecting either 10, 12 or 16 watt output with the simple twist of a band found on the back of the light. The iPAR is fully dimmable using most standard dimmers and its CrimpFinä heat sink design uses multiple thin fins for greater heat dissipation with less weight. Its PIC DATA PROä intelligent communications allows the use of a hand-held device to receive data from the light including hours of use, date of manufacture and wattage. They are available in a variety of color temperatures and beam angles.
MSi has also forged quite a niche in the furniture industry. Furniture First is offering a shared container program with its members on MSi. FF President Bill Hartman adds, “The MSi iPAR is perfect for furniture. It accents pieces and spots art better than any other light, and we’re delighted to be assisting our members in bringin this new technology, and these savings to their stores.”
“When people like Macy’s and Thomasville totaled up all the savings – the reduced power consumption of the lights themselves, air conditioning savings, and the lower cost of maintenance and replacement – they were really quite shocked,” added Johnson. “They discovered that over the 13-year lifespan of the LED lights they would save staggering amounts, and make a major contribution to the entore chain’s bottom line. Th real bottom line is this – investing in LED lighting is like putting money in the bank.
